Nick Novak Speaks with Wausau’s WAOW About Recession Fears

WAUSAU – According to the Wisconsin Employer Survey from Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC), the outlook on the state’s economy is mixed, because of the uncertainty of the present and future.

More than 200 employers were surveyed, with findings published every six months. 71% of those same employers believe the state is headed for a recession by this time next year, fueled by factors seen across the country.

That economic downturn would magnify problems, and consumers would keep taking hits.

“We may not have seen the peak yet [on inflation] and it may continue to get worse as we head into the fall,” Novak explained.

Most businesses are anticipating inflation will not curve back toward normal until more than a year from now, which could lead to a recession.
